Chuck Colson handed the lyrics to this modern hymn he wrote in early 2013 to Andy Zipf who pulled out his guitar one day and said, "Hey Rachel, take a listen to this." I was stunned at how beautiful he made it so we worked together a little bit to tweak it so a congregation can sing it.
The recording of this song was the very last one done for this project, so naturally I felt that it should end it. Andy recorded the guitar and vocal in one shot and then Wendell and I recorded the backing vocals together. The energy in the room made the recording unforgettable. It was easy for us to fall into three part harmonies.
Christ Our King Over All Reigns
Text: Chuck Colson; Tune & Arrangement: Andy Zipf, Rachel Wilhelm
In might, the Father of glory, raised Jesus out of the dead,
and seating our Lord in splendor, crowned him the exalted head.
chorus: Every tribe come bow in tribute; every tongue proclaim his praise.
Jesus, name above all names, Christ our King over all reigns.
Can a mortal name be spoken passing that on Him bestowed; Christ whose shame made his glory, His cross the way to the throne.
He reigns to break earth’s bondage, ending all futility; He will crush death’s dominion, and at long last set us free.
