about

From Jeremiah's perspective. I wrote this originally in 1996 and it was recorded for my Songs of Lament album in 2017. It was always a loose interpretation of Jeremiah chapter 8 and 9 originally. When writing this album, I thought that if I did not have this song on it, it would be really weird and would seem a shame, so I took the lyrics and made them closer to the words of scripture, and kept the chords and melody closer to what I had originally written in 1996, having changed it for the recording in 2017.

lyrics

My heart is faint within me,
I’d weep the day and night,
For the hard heart of my people,
For the arrows firing lies.

Where is the balm of Gilead?
Is there no healer there?
No rest in this wilderness?

If I could hide who I am,
And walk away and leave,
But you have called me to suffer,
Just like a future King.

Oh, that my head were fountain streams!
The parched won’t take a drink,
They’re dead in their misery.
O hear the voice of judgment near,
The trumpet blasts your wrath,
But they have no ears to hear.
But they have no ears to hear.
O Lord let me go from here.
