1.
“Where is the Lord?” not a soul has asked. Not a prophet, shepherd or scribe who studies the law. “Where is the Fountain of the Living God?” They have molded the vessels themselves, With cracks in the clay. They have turned their back but not their face, They have turned their back but not their face, They have turned their back but not their face, They won’t turn. “Where is the Vine of the purest seed?” Thorns have burst from the stems, growing out wild. Their hands were red, so to scrub and cleanse, Would do nothing to wash out the stains, Only to repent. Now there’s nothing left for you, Now there’s nothing left for you, Now there’s nothing left for you, Why won’t you turn? Where is the wrong that your fathers found, That they wandered and strayed from my arms to futility? Our trail was long in the wilderness, Where I fed you, clothed you, and loved you as my bride. You have turned your back but not your face, You have turned your back but not your face, You have turned your back but not your face, You won’t turn. You won’t turn.
2.
Have you seen what Israel has done? Clothed in scarlet and jewels of gold? Offering love like love could be sold, Out on the open road, out on the open road. My people, my children, they do not know, They’ve deserted all memory. My people, my children, they do not know me. A cry is heard in the barren heights, The weeping of Israel, the weeping of Israel. A scorching wind in the desert swells, Shouting the truth it tells, shouting the truth it tells: My people, my children, they do not know, They’ve deserted all memory. My people, my children, they do not know me. Turn to me, O turn to me. I am merciful and gentle, turn to me. A day will come when I’ll bring you home, And your restless hearts will find shalom. I’ll forgive and I’ll take every disordered ache, And I’ll anchor joy within its place. Call on me, and you’ll find me.
3.
My heart is faint within me, I’d weep the day and night, For the hard heart of my people, For the arrows firing lies. Where is the balm of Gilead? Is there no healer there? No rest in this wilderness? If I could hide who I am, And walk away and leave, But you have called me to suffer, Just like a future King. Oh, that my head were fountain streams! The parched won’t take a drink, They’re dead in their misery. O hear the voice of judgment near, The trumpet blasts your wrath, But they have no ears to hear. But they have no ears to hear. O Lord let me go from here.
4.
Righteous are you, Lord, When I cry before you, Yet I would plead my case to you again: Why do the wicked thrive in all the seasons And why do they seem to Walk away unscathed? Cause you, you plant them, They root, they grow before you And thrive in their darkness And think they’re in the light. And yet, they’ve taken Your lot to watch it wither, You’re near to their mouths But far from their hearts. Lord, you have known me, You see, you test my motives, So know that I’m trusting you to strike them down. Why should the land still Mourn with their existence? I know that it cries for justice everyday.
5.
Woe to you, O Jerusalem Tell me how long it will be Before you are made clean; Clean enough to stand before Me. O hear and give ear, be not proud For I have spoken loud and clear: Give glory to the Lord Your God Before I bring you darkness. My soul will weep in secret, For you won’t hear in your pride. My eyes will weep for you longingly, For the return of my bride. Turn from this path, this portion, Death has reserved for you, As you forget your Husband And wander into darkness. Before your feet stumble On the twilit mount And while you are looking For a brighter light, I’m twisting and turning The sky to gloom, And make it deep darkness. Woe to you, O Jerusalem, Woe to you, O Jerusalem, Woe to you, O Jerusalem, Woe to you, Jerusalem.
6.
Hear a bellow from the mountain, True disaster will go forth From my holy habitation comes Vengeance with the sword. A great whirlwind will be lifted From the farthest parts of earth And the situation shifted, you’ll be kicked up from the dirt. Shepherds, run and wail, Roll about in your own filth. Leaders of the flock, Your own slaughter is fulfilled For the trust, the trust that you have killed. All your peaceful houses cut down, All your pastures will be marred, Like a lion I have left my lair to roar alarm. You will not be lamented, Or gathered, or buried. Strewn, will be all the bodies Like refuse and carrion. A calamity will rumble From the wine inside your cup And if you refuse to take it I’ll make you drink it up. Fall and rise no more, Drain the vintage of my wrath. Shepherds of the flock, You won’t survive the judgment passed; It will fall suddenly and fast. Hear a bellow from the mountain, True disaster will go forth, From my holy habitation comes Vengeance with the sword.
7.
Build houses and settle down, Plant your gardens and eat what you sow. Do not decrease in number, multiply Don’t waste your time and you will find that I know the plans that I have for you; Plans to prosper, not to harm, Oh I Know the plans that I have for you, Plans for a future hope. Seek the peace of your town, For in its welfare you will thrive. Call on me, I will hear, Seek with your whole heart and you will find that Though you wait, in a place that is not your home, I am there in the waiting, my promise sure. I will restore your fortune, I will gather you near I will be found if you call me, I will lead you back
8.
Cries of fear are heard; cries of terror not of peace. Take a look and see every face turned deathly pale How awful that day will be but on that day you will be saved. I will break your yokes off your necks and tear your bonds; No longer enslaved, free at last to serve the Lord, So do not fear, don’t be dismayed, for on that day you will be saved. Fear not, for I am with you, I will plead your cause, and I will heal your wounds. Surely you will be saved, fear not, for I am turning This ruin to a city where I will be your God. Behold I’ll bring Him near, a ruler from your midst, For who would risk His life to approach me?
9.
Fear not, for I am with you, fear not, for I am with you, Fear not, for I am with you, I’m not finished with you yet. Fear not, for I am with you, fear not, for I am with you, Fear not, for I am with you, I’m not finished with you yet. Don’t be discouraged, I am here to save you, Though I seem so far away. You were created for rest and restoration, Hear me and don’t be afraid. You have a future: your children will be rescued; They will have quiet and ease; Out from the bondage of slavery they’ll break through, No more in captivity. I’m not finished with you yet; I’m not finished with you yet; I’m not finished with you yet; I’m not finished with you yet.
10.
Daughter, daughter, come; Weeping, weeping, come; There is room, there is room, come To my house, do you know the way? Do you know the way? Will you seek my face? You are worth the wait, so I’m waiting, waiting. You may ask the way; hear me when I say: Turn your face to the mountain, climb up and stay. Daughter, daughter, rise; Look to, look to the skies; Wander, wander from lies; You’ve been lost, you’ve been lost inside
11.
Refuge of the weary one You hear the cry of every soul You see all the wrong that’s done You are the answer from of old Remember us, remember us In the flame, in the flood Lead us on, lead us on But carry us, carry us We might be burned We might fall down But we won’t drown We might wander out too far Where wilder seas will capsize us Or get lost and break your heart Good Shepherd break us as you must

about

This album started in 2018 when City Church of Minneapolis asked Rachel to lead their songwriters and musicians in a "Jeremiah series" songwriting retreat. She taught the attendees how to write songs from scripture and they spent two days with each other, writing songs. With the completion of this retreat, the songs were featured after each sermon during the series by co-writer and worship pastor of City Church, Devin Pogue. Tracks 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 were written during the retreat and refined afterwards. Rachel wrote track 1 after she was asked to lead the retreat, starting off the creativity.

The album was supposed to be an EP, but quickly became a full-length record as songs continued to form during the year-long recording process.
